Valemount, British Columbia
July 04 - 06, 2026
Where the heck is Valemount, BC you say? Well as the locals would tell you, “it’s in the middle of everywhere”, and we’d tend to agree. Valemount (valley – mountains) and the Robson Valley lies at the confluence of three mountain ranges, The Canadian Rockies, The Cariboos and The Monashees, each spectacular in their own right. With just over 1000 local residents, Vale, as the locals call it, is the definition of a small mountain town that’s just a little off the beaten path for most people.
This area has something for everyone though, and is located just 20 mins from the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Mt. Robson, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you’ve not yet stared up at the nearly 13,000 foot summit of Mt. Robson, then quite frankly you’ve not seen all the Canadian Rockies has to offer. A family friendly hike to Kinney Lake, below Robson, is must on any traveller’s to do list, and Jasper, AB is but an hour east of here.
The Alpenglow 100 offers three race distances, incorporating two local mountains, McKirdy & Swift, topping out at over 2300 meters / almost 8000ft. The high alpine offers sightline views over Mt. Robson to the North, The Premier’s Range to the west, endless Rockies Peaks to the east, plus the Monashees and Kinbasket Lake to the south. Your head will be on a swivel, and you’ll want to pack your camera along!
Alpenglow is the phenomenon of refracted sunlight hitting mountain slopes after the sun has dipped below the horizon, or before it has crested the horizon, pre-sunrise or post-sunset. It creates an unexpected glow on high mountain peaks with the landscape below receiving very little light comparatively. Alpenglow is beautiful, and so are you, and so are these races! We cannot wait to host you in Valemount, BC for a mountain running event like no other. This is as far from corporate as you can get. Just remember, there’s no “i” in Vale. 😉
